Did you check tranny fluid color and smell? If I had it overnight I would have changed the spin on and cut it open and checked how much clutch material was on the magnet. If it was red and didn't smell burnt I would do it. Either he limped it once hot rodding or it limped like my EC did once on a downshift. Just be warned once you limp it once the trans is already damaged and it will happen again easier next time

yeah checked fluid asked him when he changed it he said 2 years ago and changed spin on a year ago checked tranny fluid was red and clean and smelled normal

you think its a good idea to get tune checked by a custom tune guy ?
 
Did you drive it constantly or run it through a few key cycles? Cuz codes usually take several key cycles to come back, so driving 300 miles straight doesn't do anything. Need to take it on a few short trips, and make a few stops. Doesn't sound like it's ragged tho

well he drove 300miles when i got there shut it off, talk to the guy took copy of my license and i signed it started truck walked around it drove to tims shut it off, got coffee drove it to shop shut it off, then drove it home shut it off, then drove it to guys house and checked if code came up but nothing :shrug:
 
Oh ok. There's not really a set amount of times, I've been told 10 key cycles but with codes it's all hit or miss when they come back. Hopefully it's nothing big, sounds like a solid truck tho

yeah i think it is, and if i change glow plug and no codes come back i will have a 25-30k truck

whole year with same spin on? Jesus. Marc do what Cornell said. Go to allison dealer tomorrow, buy spin on, replace and cut open and check. YOu can check the fluid in spin on.

In my honest opinion something seems fishy about this truck. Guy does half assed maintence, doesn't know what tune is on it yet has owned it since 08 but went ahead and did intake and exhaust? Tranny has limped, etc. I wasn't there for convo but dude seems to be holding out IMO. I'm not saying don't buy it, just be cautious is all. If you can get it for $20k I think it's a good deal. But be prepared to toss some serious $$$$ at it to get it tip top, esp if your driving it to BC. Hell while on the way, if you interested, my buddy who builds duramax's is in Alberta. If you willing to open your pocket book he can hook you up with some serious mods. He's been working with Mark @ Danville on some top secret projects and knows his duramax's.

guy seems straight up IMO, has receipts for oil changes, even has original window sticker ....he said he bought it from Florida through a buddy and it had the tune and exhaust he only did the intake and he said he did it because his friend recommended it.

and about your buddy in Alberta i will be in Alberta a few times in the next few years i don't have money saved to dump into the truck yet. i do have some but it will be kept in the "just in case account" because i need one of those cause diesol.

and i am not looking to make a race truck just 450 hp ish reliable DD that's half decent on fuel
 
shit hopefully everything works out for you getting the truck and nothing being wrong. seems like everyone is saying just save a bit to get everything checked over, which a used vehicle id agree. hopefully its some fluke of codes and everything is fine.

yeah if not its ok, the way its financed with the loan i will be keeping all the money from the truck i sold and the money i saved to pay for part of the truck so if tranny goes i will pay 6000-7000 for built tranny cash and i will still have a good deal IMO

26,000-27,000 for a LBZ with built tranny and 153,000km is still a great deal

That's what I got quoted for a trans here in MN lol. I told the guy he was fucking nuts for wanting 6700 for a run of the mill Allison build.

I'd rather do it myself 3 times and still be ahead 3 grand.

i will also be close too Washington so maybe there is a shop there for more cheap...

i want tranny to hold till at least 700hp because you never know what the future bring for the Dmax
 
shitttt. one thing Cali is cheaper on. buddy paid 4500 for dropping his off,waiting there for 6 hours and it was done. good to 800 to the wheels iirc
