They aren't terrible, definitely better out there though. There was a full MTX system in my truck when I bought it and the speakers only lasted a week before they blew but the sub is still going strong after almost 2 years. Hits pretty good for me

Thunder what, I got a pair of thunder 6000 12s in 05 used and ran them over powered one blew in 2011 so I bridged the other and went for broke and ran it for a couple more years before it finally gave up

most I heard were junk, and as mentioned before, rattled, sounded distorted. Could have been a shitty setup...

The MTX thunder series amps are very powerful yet also very bulky. My brother had on with no issues. However, the amp is the most important part if the setup, as is setting it correctly.

I would never buy MTX subs. They are mediocre at best. I stick with Sundown, RE, FI, DD, DB drive (good budget stuff), and for speakers I run Rockford.

I run one Sundown SD2 10 and a Sundown SAX1200D. I spent $350 on my sub/amp setup. All brand new and sounds awesome. Surprises a lot of people and I've grown out of rattling everybody's shit and I just like clean bass.

My 4 channel amp is an older mtx also bought used in 05 for about $100 and it has been awesome, ran it as a 2 channel for a while running the subs. I wouldn't have a problem paying used price but as the others said new price isn't worth it.

no one is going to get a brand new sax1200 and a sd2 for $350 in normal circumstances..... come on now. I paid $120 for all my audioque (now soundqubed) equipment. 2 sd2.5 12s and aq1200d but im not telling people they are gonna get it at that price.

there are plenty of companies you can choose from.
for subs:
rockford, fi, dd, dc, soundqubed, incriminator, SSA, sundown, skar, focal, hertz, rainbow, alpine, arc, morel, mmats, jl, image dynamics, jbl, kicker

you cant go wrong with any of those, and a lot of them make amps too but for those that don't
amps:
in addition to select above companies
audison, zapco, american bass, cadence, cresendo, setsom, zed

there are plenty more but if you cant find something from that list, promptly :gtfo: lol

Fwiw, I'm still rocking my mtx shallow mount that's I've had since I owned my S10 in 09. It's still going strong and I've had no complaints.

They are decent. Had 3 tens in their loaded enclosure for a couple years. I like Memphis and I put my old Memphis subs in my moms truck that iv had since 08 and they still sound great.

I can read pretty good IMO and I don't see where I said "you can get a SAX1200D and SD2-10 for $350 brand new". Never said that homie. Just stating my setup and what I paid. I also got the box for free, but most people don't.

SAX1200D is $400 new, found my brand new half price on Craigslist. Only was tested once to make sure it worked but just like brand new in the box. The sub was 100% new and can be had for $150.

I had a thunder 1501.d MTX amp running my RE sx12 in hs. Was a solid setup IMO

Since RE has went down hill, I stick with DC subs. But I am a bit biased. They are made in my home town, and the shop who got me hooked on RE is who makes them.

As for Amps I have a cheap hifonics 1200 watter I've had for years

But if I bought again, prob sundown or arc. My boat is nothing but wet sounds amps (4 of them) and word has it they are made by arc. These amps IMO are the cats pajamas. Never heat up and produce clean, true rated power. And coming from a Marine set up, I believe holds clout. They are running much longer, at a much heavier load than would be in a vehicle.

My brother had some MTX subs waay back in the day (in the 90's) and it was some of the best subs you could get back then. He had them in a Chevy Celebrity sounding like fucking earthquake with just two 10's. I am not sure of the quality of them these days, but I know they are not one of the best subs out there but then again they are not bottom barrel either. He had them hooked to a beast of a Kenwood amp. I can tell you for sure that Kenwood amps have done down in quality since then. They don't make em like they used to.
