Couple days ago my mom complained to me of a burning smell under her hood. I've never once cleaned this motor in the time she has had it...mom is more of a robo-wash kinda lady. Therefore up until this point, anything more than using that sucker as a test mule for the companies I used to represent, wasn't going to happen. That had to change Monday. I opened the hood to this:
Notice the splashing on the mouth of this tank.
I knew it was gonna be filthy, and to be honest, it was better than I thought. When I popped the hood, I also turned the key to let it run so that my big nose could ID where the smell was coming from. All I was told was "burning".

It was time to get my tools together. This is what I grabbed and used:
I started by first soaking the engine bay with the water only sprayer. Then lead into the Strip Wash sprayer. This works pretty well given the tips on the sprayers. I can really isolate dirty and grimey areas and "blast off" a lot of the dirt and debris. The dwelling strip wash prior to me spraying the area down with Simple Green and a brush, aided a bunch in getting the old grease, dirt, and grime loosened and gone.

Keep in mind, I was doing this in 30* weather outside, no jacket. It was cold! I dressed this with Engine Milk...just a mixture of some old tire dressing and water. Shaken well.
Turns out after cleaning up the engine bay and letter her drive it for two days, the smell must have been coming from the spout of the coolant tank. Must have splashed out somehow and hit the motor or frame. Anyway, no smell now.

- 5 Gallon bucket with hot water and 5 oz. of Simple Green
- AP's Wheel Brush
- AP's Fender Brush
- Cleaning Solution in bottle was only Simple Green and Hot Water
- In one of the Gallon Sprayers was water
- In the other was a solution of some company's strip wash and water.
