BARBER's 2008 Silverado Re-Build Thread

Monday late afternoon, this thing is scheduled to be at the body shop.

Oh and in other news...

Last night, I pulled out some valuables...sub box, XM, radar detector, and then took the back bumper off for the guy and took the toolbox out since after the body work I'll have the bed Rhino Lined. Also, swapped the factory rims/tires on before I left. It was going to be close for my pickup to fit into the guy's shop, so swapped them real quick.

Took it in this afternoon. Pic I took when I left LOLZ....

I will say, wore down 265s and 4.56s make for one hell of a burnout....no pictars. Also took a couple cell pics of the wheels/tires the other day. Little bit better pictures of these things...

Good news. Got a call first thing this morning that the body work was all done on this thing. This individual fixed everything and did it for only $1,000. Went up late this afternoon and got it and took it out to some friends' heated shop outside of town. Wanted to let it sit out there for the next few days before I took it back into town for some more Rhino Lining work to be done on it. It will go back in late Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday that guy will get started on it. I'm going to get the rear wheel wells sprayed and for sure want the top of the bed rails sprayed. Kind of like a bed cap deal.

I found a little gem on Craigslist and hoping to get it, if I don't, then the Rhino Lining will include the whole bed sprayed over the rails plus the wheel wells. So that little deal is hinging on something I really hope to pick up. This little gem I speak of, I'll give ya guys a hint....it starts with the letter "L" and ends with the number "9" and is priced under $1k.

Quick cell pic I shot when I picked it up today....

Didn't get it. When I talked to the guy, he said another person ahead of me claimed he was going to buy it, and he did so. Missed my chance. Oh well.

In other news...more updates. After I picked my pickup up after the body work, I ran it outside of town a little ways to some friends' heated shop and let it sit out there for a few days so the clear could fully cure. Ran it into town again Tuesday afternoon to Rhino Lining and had the bed sprayed over the rails and the rear wheel wells. The top of the bed rails and the wheel wells got cleared over top of the liner. Happy with the turnout.

Onto the pictars. Got it tucked away nicely in the shed at my place for now. Meanwhile I got most of the bumper plastics prepped and ready to spray. I'll pull out some interior plastics and repaint them a different color at the same time soon. Been really busy with calving at Dad's place so progress has been and will be slow on this thing.

That LQ9 was a frickin steal. Was out of an '02 Escalade with 72,000 miles that was rearended and totaled. Guy sold his project vehicle and was selling the motor for $925. I was ready to drop everything and drive clear to the other side of the state to get it.

only think im not a huge fan of is the current bumper, but arent you going back to stock?

Yes sir. Picked up a complete factory bumper with fogs and everything from a black '09 from a friend. Going to swap out the lower textured valance for a painted one that I'm prepping to paint right now.

New updates.

The other night I got lined up to paint my front and rear bumper plastics, repaint the one tow mirror, my interior plastics, and a couple things for my Dad's '08.

Recently worked on getting the new painted lower valance put on the front bumper. Polished up the fog light caps some. Need to do some more.

Yesterday I worked on disassembling my rear bumper. Got down to the frame, cleaned it up and painted it with some undercoating. The new 'impact bar' is laying on the ground in the background.

Sprayed the inside of the new chrome bumpers with some undercoating. Reason I did this is because I've seen little dents caused in these bumpers from rocks and shit hitting them. So, a little something to protect them. Better than nothing.

Chrome caps bolted on using 1/4"x3/4" stainless steel bolts and stainless nuts and washers.

The chrome bumper caps and the impact bar I bought from an online store on ebay as a package deal. They went together pretty nicely. One thing I noticed, the impact bar didn't have all the holes drilled for the bumper caps. I think it missed two holes per side. I didn't bother with them since they were on good enough. I'm also having trouble getting the spare tire tool door thing back on. I think the hole on that impact bar is cut completely wrong. Need to figure something out there.

A couple things to point out on my rear bumper, I sprayed the area on the impact bar where the trailer plug in goes with black and some clear instead of the semi-gloss paint that is on that bumper bar. That's one thing that bugs me when someone does painted plastics especially with a different color on the NNBS bumpers. I also painted the spare tire tool door at that same time (not pictured). Chrome license plate lights came from LMC Truck. Only place I could find them. Lastly, the spikes I ordered for my license plate.

Lastly, the new interior color.
