Without running boards it doesn't look flat. The frames on the tahoes/burbs/avalanche/yukons are not flat like trucks. They need to be bodied or have running boards in order to have a basis on which to measure and build off of. Unless you build a new frame section that is flat.

the bed area just becomes a PITA because of the fold down rear of the cab.

that's not a big deal. all that stuff is in the cab. the bed area is a pain because there are inner pieces that go in the bed the have to be in place in order to put on all the exterior pieces and the stock bed cover pieces. out of all this tub that has to be in there, when the bed is done, you may only see 1" of the tub edge.
 
Showfest was a mudfest but the truck drove awesome and it got good publicity
