Audio gurus, pre amp output question

Ok, so the short story is I went to Brandsmart/BestBuy looking at radios today. Found a Pioneer DEH-X6500BT that I liked and it was cheap so I grabbed it. Got home, got the harnesses all spliced in and went to grab the radio and saw that there's only front and switchable rear/sub RCA preouts.

I've ALWAYS made sure to buy radios with 3 sets of pre-outs to make wiring subs easy, the one time I don't do my research, I screw myself. The manual says there's a menu where you can switch it to one of 3 settings (rear/rear, rear/sub, sub/sub). Not entirely sure what that means or does and couldn't figure it out tonight (was getting dark fast). Got my amp and one sub hooked up to test and the sub was working, but really wasn't hitting. Sounded more like it was getting the regular signal instead of the low bass.

So my question is, how do you guys work around this? I know somebody has used a radio with just 2 sets of preouts before with subs. Line output converter maybe? I sold a Jensen flip out years ago for the same reason.

The other thing is, I only have a 4/3/2 channel amp at the moment. Gonna get a mono block soon, just wanted to get it working for now. Would that have anything to do with it? I figured it should still work, was gonna run it on 2ch and each sub on a separate channel for the time being.

set it up for rear/sub, does your 4 channel have a 2 channel input selection? run 4 channel off of rear in 2 channel input and sub off of sub output like normal. Also did you have your amp crossover set to full pass instead of low?

Not sure I understand. But yes, I can switch between 4 and 2 channel input and I had the crossover set to low pass. It only has low pass, off, and high pass.

are you going to just run 1 amp or are you going to run multiple amps?

Just one for the subs. The one I have right now can be either 4, 3, or 2 channels, but it's just the one sub.

ok i gotcha, then i would set them for sub/sub that way you dont have to worry about hooking up the correct outputs

If only running one amp it shouldn't matter. Set up the switchable rca as sub/sub and make sure the ones you plug in to the amp correspond to the amp. Pioneer has some weird hidden adjustments for subs that make all the difference in the world haha. Buy spiveys zx750.1 for 150

if you set the deck right it should work just fine. installed a system in an expedition with the same thing, hit exactly like it should have. check and double check all your settings on the deck and with the amp itself. if it still doesn't work, take it back and get a deck with a dedicated sub output. the amp will work just fine. check your wiring too, whether they are ran in series or parallel will make a noticeable difference in power output
