2000 Silverado 2500

Had 4.10s and 265s in my 04 then went to 285 and wanted more gear. 2500 at would keep you in the power, iirc 2500 was about 75-80 with 265s and I loved it. Also since you have a 2500 nonHD do you have a 9.5 or 10.5 14 bolt?

So this would be to much? And do you think 4.56's would be best, its a toss up between them and 4.10's. Thruway driving at 75 with 4.56's my RPMs will be like 2500 which seems to high

LS motors are not scared of RPM. And you would be surprised how little of MPG you will loose, with the added RPM's @ cruise speeds. With your larger tires, and some mixed town/highway, it will feel alot quicker, and alot easier on your transmission. My truck ran 2700 rpm @ 75 mph for half a year (no 4th gear), and now, I am back down to 1900/2000 @ 75 mph. And the difference was a mere 1.5-2 mpg.

you don't want anything that says locker, you want a limited slip. Tru-Trac is the way to go.

And what makes you say that? The idea of true power to both rear wheels is nice. And it says it disengages for turning. I Hate it when my truck spins one wheel. Stuck, snow, burnouts, donuts, towing, plowing, etc.... all benefit from 100% power to both rear wheels
 
Locker can kill slow speed turning radius and can scrub front tires when in reverse. Probably suck for snowplowing, unless you get a e-locker that can be turned off and on at will.
 
a tru track will lock just as good as any locker, it just has a clutch setup built into it, so when your making tight corners and stuff it slips,

I locker is more jerky when trying to turn sharp, it also has an annoying ratching sound with turning because that's how it disengages.


talk to 90% of the people on the forum with upgraded rears, they have a tru trac.
 
Well then 4.56's and tru-trac it is! Was looking at tru-trac when recommended the Yukon. Also have a lead on some 317's as well as 243's :hmm:
 
Your truck has iron heads I believe? I wouldn't mess with head swap unless you plan on doing a cam and other stuff at the same time. I would go with the 243s though if you don't plan on boosting it.

Honestly I'd just leave the motor mostly stock for a work truck.

Iron heads is correct, was told 243's would be best or 799 but that 317's would be an upgrade. What would you do when doing heads? Heads, headers, full exhaust, and 4.56 will really wake this beast up. Its not the work truck that tows everyday like you, just occasionally. Mainly just commute to jobs. Just wanna wake this beast up some cause currently is slower than slow

if you're gonna do heads I'd go with 243s or 799s... they're pretty much the same thing. 317s would be an upgrade (especially with boost) but they wouldn't be enough of an upgrade to buy/clean/and swap them on IMO.
Like Ginger said, I wouldn't even touch the heads without doing a cam. Way too balls deep in the motor to not touch the cam lol.
If you really wanna get balls deep in the motor, then I'd do an appropriate cam (and supporting mods), 243 or 799 heads (you may want to mill them a bit to bump up compression), TBSS/NNBS intake, 90mm DBC throttle body, LTs, gears/trutrac, electric fans, and a big trans cooler. Depending on cam you can run stock converter. 4L80E stalls a bit higher. Wouldn't be bad with the gears.
I will warn you. Motor shit gets expensive quick. Its a slippery slope but it can be really fun lol. If I could do it all over again with my gas truck, I would have left the 5.3l stock and just have done headers, electric fans, and a tune. But I didn't lol

haha This is where I'm stuck. I really want to do all this but I know its going to be expensive but I also plan on owning the truck for 5+yrs with no payment so gotta have some fun, right? We will see what happens, trying to read up and learn right now, definitely doing gears and true-trac.

Its very fun when your big GAS truck can hang with a lot of sports cars and diesel trucks. Diesel fanboys would get mad as fuck when a lifted gas truck beat them.
