drunk lady hits my truck....carnage and advice for rebuild parts

Sounds like a bunch of guys who don't know what the fuck they're talking about. If there is anymore damage A supplement will be written. This is not an uncommon practice. Any legit body shop will get it straightened out. Just don't be using a backyard shop. You can take it where ever you want. Only thing I find weird is you were already given a check. Never heard of that especially if there is a lien on the vehicle. You can't really tell the extent of the damage without digging into the truck. Generally an estimate would get written the shop would start their work. Find any additional problems and turn it in to insurance. Thus a supplement is written for additional repairs.

Pretty much what I was told, even if the check was already written. If the body shop finds a problem, they will let the insurance know. He is the neighboring business to where I work and we have him work on all of our trucks, so I am not worried. He wrote the check so the shop could start working on it while my insurance guy starts to hound her insurance to get money.

This.

And lol at doing NDT on a truck. "Hang on Bob, let's get the mag particle up in this bitch to see if we have any cracks on this $50 control arm."

How's your butthole feeling after that massive ass raping?

1100 is ridiculous for that much damage.
Hell I got almost that much when they broke in my truck and stole my radio a few years ago. Only damage was a broken door handle and lock, the dash bezel, AC control panel, and the missing radio. They gave me $900 AND shipped me a new radio since I didn't have any receipts for the aftermarket radio that was stolen. They just replaced it with a $150 Pioneer radio which I ended up selling for $100.

ive never heard of a person coming out and saying oh your total is this much, normally the adjuster comes out, deems if its totaled or not, and then the body shop gives them the estimate.

State Farm has always done that with me. An adjuster comes out and assesses the damages, then he sits in his van/mobile office for about 20-30 minutes and writes up his report of the damages and repair costs and what not, and he printed me check on the spot. They have also always told me that I can either cash the check and just do what I want with the money, or if I bring it to a body shop and they estimate the repairs to cost more, then just have the shop call them and they will amend the settlement and pay the body shop directly.
But once you cash that check, you cannot have it amended.
Geoff, whatever you do, don't cash that check.

yeah thats what he did. sat in his car for like 30min, got everything together for an estimate, wrote me a check, bodyshop finds anything they will tally it on to the total

Coming off the truck at the shop:

Geoff, give these guys a call and see if they have the wheel... it looks like they have gloss black diesels in an 18x9 6x5.5 for $193/wheel.

4 Wheel Customs - XD766 Diesel

gave this to the body guy. they wrote it up for 321, so if i can save 100 on this and apply it to the tie rods and fog light kit, that would be awesome. might even have him colormatch the truck while its in there. fuck it its only money.

EDIT: told the shop if it isnt bent hold off on buying a new wheel. ill just clean it up and run it till i put my winters on since im probably getting a new setup next spring anyway.

If you can save money, why not.

A lot if tunes the adjuster will write the estimate. The shop goes buy it and if the shop finds any problems they add to the estimate and turn it into insurance. When the insurance approves the 2nd estimate or supplement. The vehicle can start being worked on again

This is basically what Geoff said happened. Generally they will only give the owner a check written to him if the vehicle is paid for with no liens. If not the check will go straight to the busy shop made out to the owner and the body shop or just the owner.

While the repair does seem low I wouldn't worry about it. They fix it put it back together and test drive it. If any problems are found while driving then they will find the problem and replace more parts

Bummer... i got 1800 from insurance when my window was broken and headunit was stolen. But yeah, the shop will add on a few grand to that total when its all said and done.

Geoff please talk to shop guy and explain why suspension on that corner should be replaced, it's other ladies insurance paying anyway

yeah i was like, "probably gona need a new axle and wheel bearing at least but im sure you will see when you pull it apart" and he was pretty much in agreement.
