Photography Thread

I know I'm a few hours and a day late but idgaf. Thinking of giving the 365 challenge/ a picture a day challenge a shot. More or less just to motivate me to use my camera a lot more than I have in the past.

Also, picked up a 6D last week from Adorama and a Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer for a good price with a hefty Canon rebate.

Here's the first of (hopefully) many:

Canon EF 135 f/2
ISO 4000 (I love how this camera handles noise)
1/200th
f/11.0

That is awesome. I want a good camera and to learn how to take good pictures lol.

Even an entry level camera is capable of taking great pictures. I'd say it's mostly technique, then good quality lenses, then how good of a camera you have.

After the holidays you can find some great deals on cameras, both new and used. Some people sell their old ones after getting new ones for xmas, and others get a camera that's "too advanced" so they sell it new in box for much less. Just gotta be ready to jump on a deal if it pops up.

You would be guessing correctly. I got a pretty good deal on it, and the 16-35 F2.8 mkI was still hanging out higher then I felt like waiting for haha.

Yeah they are expensive. I still kinda wish I waited to get mine just because it was a lot lol. Nice scoop though, excited to see what you come up with!

I waffled a bit on the predecessor to both those lenses, found a 17-35 F2.8 for sale, but theres VERY little information about it and whats out there seems that its soft at 2.8. Aint no body got time for that.

The lens I bought seems to be a nice sharp copy. Hoping to get out fishing in the next couple weeks here, it will come with me. Should be fun,

Mine is soft at the edges wide open until about 20mm, but that's expected imo. Stop it down to 4.5 or greater and it gets much clearer.

I always enjoy your fishing photos. I don't fish myself, but I am always surprised to see the colors that nature comes up with.

Waiting for a deal on a d5300... my d40x needs a big brother.
I should get lightroom. Amazon has a good price, and i've screwing around with the photos app for too long. It's trash.

really loving this T1i.

I find it interesting and enjoyable that 90% of the people who post in this thread have a camera thats 8+ years old. Khaos doesnt count anymore with his new fangled 6D.

here is something not interesting to most of you, but extremely interesting to me.
junco oregon by Geoff Anderson, on Flickr

Oregon phase dark eyed junco. They dont live here, so this is a rare bird for the area. More then likely I wont see another one.

:bird:

Lol its all good. I just jumped on a good rebate for an upgrade. Otherwise I'd still be using my 5Dc.

If that bird isn't from around there does that mean it's in migration or something?

Well this is where it starts to get weird and extra nerdy on my part. BUT here it goes, that birds typical range is from the central planes to the west coast. TYPICALLY they are within that range during the winter months, they migrate to the states with the cold weather. They like cold, but not winter time in canada cold. So what probably happened is that it got mixed in with a flock of birds that typically comes to the midwest during winter, plus add in the weird weather patterns we have been having with the jetstream, it got lost. This sighting today marks it as the 6th time in St. Louis one has been found. So thats cool.
