On a whim I purchased a 1972 Custom 350 C10 while on my way back through Vermont yesterday.

I've always been a fan of the second generation trucks and stopped in to look at this shop truck.
She's seen better days cosmetically with it's fender well rot, cracking bondo on the bed and a door that just won't quite shut right. Frame is in good shape and had something slathered onto it once upon a time to keep it from rotting out. The current owner knew nothing about the truck other then it had some things 'done to it' and they took it in on trade. They wanted to put their store logo on it and drive it around town but I guess that never quite happened.

I had some apprehension about buying it and the fellow asked me where I was from. After telling him that I lived over in Portland he offered to drive the truck through VT and NH to Maine behind his family's camper. Come to find out they were going to be staying at a campground 15 minutes from my house. So its being delivered here today, for free.

Knowing that I have some more work to do to my other truck, I didn't want to buy something that was going to soak up all my time. It's important to me to finish what I started.. but that doesn't mean I can't have a beat up old 'shop truck' to run back and forth to the store, does it? Besides.. it was dirt cheap, how could I resist?

Upon a quick / closer inspection
It's been lowered and has New CA's & spindles
Disk brake conversion in front and a lot of other parts.
Shocks are shit.

New-Ish dual exhaust, rear tires are shit.

350 V8 purrs. Mechanically it runs great. Fires right up and motor is quiet and smooth.
New Radiator and housing and some electrical work in the front.
Has a good rumble.. but could be all bark and no bite. We'll see.

Driving over to pick it up in a few minutes. It made it through the mountains and hills of NH and VT no problem.
Just wanted to share with any of you who like a good ol' shop truck. I know, it's no work of art.

They very well could be stock then. I spied them when I quickly looked at the front end laying on the ground in the parking lot. I didn't spend an awful lot of time going over it. Just thought it was cool and cheap - and it seemed to run well.

Drove it on the highway home, but I didn't break 65mph.
Pretty damn fun to drive. Front end is tight, and it steering is great.
This is where it will sit for a week until I can get a few parts for it.

Little more info

- 41,000 miles
- (as menioned above) factory disc brakes in front. 5x5 bolt [5x127]
- Working on identifying the 350 via Engine ID code, maybe this weekend
- The VIN states it was manufactured in Baltimore, MD

I'll have some pics of the front end and the lowering components soon.
Just need to pop the rims off and take some pics. Looks like a 3/5 drop.. just a guess.
I'm sure someone will know when pics are posted.

Tires are 235/70R15 - I do have a 15mph + difference between speedo / actual I need to figure out.

I need some new rubber on the back so I might bump the rim / tires up soon.
I want to keep the lower profile look but get my RPM's down a little by turning a bigger tire. Maybe run the new tires on some Black Methods and stick with the white lettering.. or maybe some knockoffs. Cheap is good for now just to keep it on the road.
