So when I bought the truck, it had HIDs in the lows, fogs and high beams and shitty parts store LEDs in the blinkers and park lights. So I ordered all new 6000k LED lows/highs/fogs and switchbacks/corner lights.

Started to rip out all the old stuff and holy shit what a mess. There was relay harness on relay harness on relay harness. A big wad of extra wire was crammed between the radiator and condenser and 2 of the ballasts were just free hanging. The others were super glued to the core support Oh, and the resistors they had wired in for the “canceller” were resting on plastic and had melted through

All done. I love the switchbacks, they’re cool as hell. Never had any before. And I really like the all 6000k look on a white truck. I was on the fence cuz I always ran amber corners/turn signals in the GMCs but I like it on this Chevy

Much better! Those resistors get hot af

Yeah they do! I did something a little different this time, I drilled two holes in the headlight support just large enough to get a zip-tie through and hung the resistors so they’re free hanging in the air. We’ll see how it works

Now I need to find some better housings. The beams on these are HORRIBLE. I eventually want to get some headlights made by Phil with projectors but that’s much later down the road.

Got some work done this weekend. Here’s a picture of how I hung the resistors

Also changed the oil and got the other turn signal sockets wired in

Then today I did knock sensors. Holy hell did it need them

The rear hole was so full of gunk , it took about 10 tries and 30min with paper towels, WD40 and a screwdriver to get it clean

Did some on the cheap color matching this weekend. One reason I love Olympic White, Krylon gloss white is damn near a perfect match

First I pulled the tailgate and painted the rear tail pan black with Krylon satin cuz I hate how it always looks dirty when it’s white.

The rear bumper I just scuffed with a red scotchbrite, cleaned it real good and taped everything off. It’s too much of a PITA to pull these off, plus I’ll still step on them and use them, so they don’t need to be perfect

Then I moved to the front. I did pull the front upper pad off and the lower valence, they’re not too bad.

Painted the tow hooks red while I was at it. Gonna do the bow tie red too. Think it’ll tie in the Z71 stickers and everything pretty well

All done. I love the look. Not crazy about the top pad still being textured, it has a sheen instead of a shine. So I’ll be replacing it with a smooth colormatched pad in the near future. Truck is dirty btw, once it’s washed they’ll match even better.

You can see it matches pretty decently. Just too much texture.

So the whole time I’ve had the truck, it smokes at lunch on start up after sitting roughly 4hrs. Not first thing in the morning, not when I leave in the afternoons (also roughly 4-5hrs), rarely on the weekend. It’s weird.

So I did valve seals and ordered a catch can. The valve seals stopped it for about 2 weeks and now it’s back. I also changed the oil at the same time and went to Rotella 15w40 with some STP additive hoping it would help. Gonna do the catch can this weekend but has anyone else run into this? If the catch can doesn’t help, I’m assuming I have a cracked head. I don’t think it’s valve guides, cuz I wiggled the valves while doing the seals and they didn’t seem to move but who knows. I’m open to suggestions.

Got the catch can installed today. Was pretty easy, just made a bracket that used two bolts from the alternator bracket. Not bad for $30 from amazon.

Also threw on some 1.5” spacers to see if I wanted to run the stock/spacer look again. This truck is cranked more, so the front is sucked in a little more than my old one. The front is perfectly flush, the rear sticks out about a half inch. Gonna get some 1” spacers for the rear and run the 1.5” on the front. Playing with the idea of doing 22/33 or 22/35 in the fall when it’s time for tires

And painted the bow tie red to tie in the tow hooks

Been looking into catch cans myself for the new rig, crazy that people are buying whats basically an air/water separator with a bracket for like $500. What made you decide on that one?

Also, spacers actually look good. Normally not big on stock wheels+spacers but with the flares they work nicely.

I was watching some YouTube videos about catch cans. My Mach 1 was the first time I’d ever had one, and it was just a glass water/moisture separator basically. Doing research, these cheapo EBay/Amazon ones seemed to do just as good a job as the more expensive ones.

I just browsed Amazon and found one that I liked the looks of/features. And for $30, it’s hard to beat. Came with some steel wool to throw inside, a breather if you’re just running a vented setup, some hose (the unmarked one in my pictures), some o-rings, worm clamps (that were too small for anything lol) and different fittings for different size hoses. I just had to come up with some flat stock for a mount and some extra hose.

I’ll report back how well it works in the next couple weeks/month or so. My truck went through 1.5qts in 1500 miles right after my oil change and smokes at startup sometimes. That prompted my valve seals and the catch can. My previous trucks would burn 1-2qts every 5000-7500miles.

I pulled the little dipstick when I got home out of curiosity. Was showing a lot on there, so I pulled the can off to see. Probably had a 1/4qt of oil in there just from 1 day That would explain the smoke. Now to figure out why so much oil.

Geez, hope you get it figured out!

Me too. This whole “clean low mileage truck” is turning out to be too good to be true. Hoping it’s something simple, but the heads may be coming off. And if that happens, it’s getting a cam and custom tuning too lol. So long as the bottom end checks out
