Well, a couple months ago I got my first diesel, a 2006 Chevy 2500 Duramax HD LT. I'm absolutely loving it, and have added a few things like bumper/grille (deer are a big problem in my area), a leveling kit, tow mirrors, and completely redid the audio inside. I do have a couple questions though:

• what brand oil do you diesel guys use? She's got almost 250,000 miles.

• what air filter cleaning kits do y'all use?

• how often do y'all lube the chassis?

• lastly, how often should I add fuel conditioner?

Thanks for looking guys!

Don't know don't have a dmax
I don't just keep the fuel filter clean and changed regularly.

I don't have a diesel but this is what we do on my dad's Cummins

Rotella T is what we use with almost 300k miles
We use a dry air filter on his truck, just wash out with water, let dry and re-install
Depends on how much you drive but we usually lube all our cars chassis' about every 6-12 months depending on usage
I believe my dad puts a bottle of fuel treatment in once every 6 months or so and does a new fuel filter once a year or so

Yeah rotella is inexpensive and one of the best oils
I have and after market intake so I just wash it with water
If you live in a salty northern area I would do it every year
I have researched fuel conditioners for LBZ engines and nothing great came up just that you shouldn't use 2 stroke oil like they did back in the day

Thanks for all the input guys, I appreciate it!

Looks like the general consensus is that Rotella is the way to go, which is good because that's what the previous owner was running.

As for air filter cleaner, just checked and mines a K&N so I ordered the proper kit from them.

Seems like not too many people bother with lubing the chassis, so I probably will only do it maybe every other year. I do live in a coastal area so I probably should do it that often though.

Thanks again guys!

Not just your basic rotella 15-40, you can if you'd like.
I'm talking full syn rotella T6 5-40.
Google them, they are different oils.

:foreal: cleaning filter once a year and just with water? :nono:

:word: :wtf:

I run the normal Rotella T in my diesel,

I lube the frame about every other oil change, since you should do the fuel filter ever other oil change as well.

if you have a K&N just buy the oil. i use simple green or purple power to clean the fliter and then after it is dry normally 24 hours, i reoil it.

i normally add shit to the fuel every tank. you buy a small bottle it should last 2 tanks.

Mobile Delvac ESP 0w40 full synthetic. I change when the DIC gets to about 10-15%...25,000km

I use the stock filter. Filters better then that piece of shit k&n. ISO 5011 Duramax Air Filter Test Report . You don't need an aftermarket filter until your pushing 5-550hp, more then enough flow.

Lube every oil change if you have OCD or dislike replacing parts. Every other oil change should be fine.

I add fuel additive every other tank. Unless I completely empty the tank. Using optilube xpd.

OP, just do the exact opposite of what marc does, and you'll have a solid running truck.
