Help me choose. Ive the funds to cam the 4.8 with the cam that pat specd me. I was woundering what I should do tho if I should cam this for now and wait to see if it blows, or buy 6.0 or buy 6.0 short block L92 heads and nnbs intake? But if I go 6.0 build that might take more time maybe till summer time? Thats if I can Even fine L92 heads. What would be a good route.

Imo, find a 6L. Either find an LQ9, or find and LQ4 and throw LQ9/LS2 flat tops in there, cam that, maybe some head work and then swap it. You'll like it a lot more than a cammed 4.8 imo. You'd just want more after that came swap.

Word. Better off doing the swap than camming the 4.8. The 6L would yield more bang for the buck :imo: and you could hook it up prior to the swap.

Figured you guys would say that thanks.
I found a LQ9 with 105k for 1100.

Bout the same price around my area. I know some will say they can find cheaper, but I never could, would have had to made 6+ hour drive.

I always say go with a 6.0 swap when people ask. I've been there and wish I would have just spent the extra couple hundred and got the motor. Would have came out better in the long run.

Round my area they are hard to find.
I want to do the swap but I need to dig for more info on what parts and how deep to go into it. At the end of the day I wanna be able to DD it but also being able to make a few runs with it.
Would a 370 be dependable or is that a lil high for DD?

Hmm wanna see full shots of the truck. Youll be better off going ahead with the 6L. Especially if youre thinking about running L92s, otherwise youll be buying another cam to account for all that flow. and you cant just use any nnbs intake on L92 either, has to be square port (you were kind of general with nnbs intake, so I just wanted to be sure you knew!). L92 heads are readily available and easy to get your hands on. In all honesty, in the long run, its generally cheapest/easiest to either buy a block (for a good deal) and build a 370, or even a stock LQ9, than to buy a complete LQ4, swap pistons, blah blah blah lol. Id rather go ahead and upgrade, than go thru camming the 4.8, then wanting more and paying for all the gaskets again, swapping, etc.

That cam pat G specd, with 4:10 gears, and say a 3200 stall will run 14.5s about at the track with a good tune.
IMO id buy a 5.3 or 6.0.

If you decide to go with a cam in that 4.8 i would say that that cam would be a great every day driver cam, and tight stall converter say a budget Circle D 3200 would compliment it well. Do realize though you need the cam, then springs (120-200 bucks) gaskets and crank bolt (60 bucksish) pushrods (100-150 bucks) so it adds up.
I think youll get more of a gain by a gear swap. you could also even run a stall converter without a cam thatll help more than that cam would.
So its really up to you if its worth it, im trying to shed some light and give you ideas as to what to do with the 4.8.
either way with a cam setup id use a reputable local tuner... Iv never been fond of a mail order tune however some use them and love them!

Also the reason why your weld might not be great is bc its hard to mig stainless to steel which is what you seemed to have done.
check out my build lol im doing the same exact thing as you basically.
my view on QTP btw... they are decent cut outs, just onced closed or open dont keep holding down the button. Iv had friends that have had them fail which is why i went with a race ready.

Got some 243/799 heads from eddie. Going to get them milled.030. Also pressure tested and replace valves and any other stuff that needs replacing.
I wanna get a cam for this 4.8 but Im still in the hunt for 6.0 short block. If i cam the 4.8 kinda want a cam the will work good on it and if i find the 6l that work good in that as well. idk in what range to look at.

Dont mine eddies wrapping skills.

Mid to high 22x/22x would be good :imo:

Little big for the 4.8, but a good candidate for the 6.0.

Honestly I'd buy a used cam for the 4.8 and run it while you look for a 6.0, then get a cam spec'd for the new motor.
