Is it 2.5 pipe to 3 inch tip? The tips don't look big enough for it to be 3 inch though . I want to run maybe true dual glass packs with a 3-3.5 inch tip? Any suggestions though

Well if you don't feel like replacing your whole exhaust then I would say different muffler and larger tips. I currently have a full 3" single exhaust with a 4" tip dumped over the axle and it sounds great. But sound is a tricky thing everyone likes something a little different.

Get on YouTube and start listening. We don't really know what you want it to sound like.

We don't know how much work you are willing to put into it...

I have long tubes, off road y pipe, 24 inch magnaflow all 3 inch into a 4" over the axle into a 6 inch tip. Sounds very deep and loud under throttle, but quiet while driving. It's a great setup and supports engine mods...but do you need that...probably not...

If you do true dual glass packs you will sound like your regular "redneck". Popping and ignorantly loud at all rpm. X pipe sounds smooth, and h pipe is somewhere in the middle between true duals and x piped.

As for a muffler, the smaller the muffler...the louder. Straight through are more performance oriented. A chambered muffler is more towards sound. (Think flowmaster sounds.)

Post up a few videos so we know what you want and we can be specific on what you need.

Well I want deep and loud sound. Not really popping much. But if it pops want it to be the deep popping not the loud high pick redneck pooping. I want a deep loud sound . My exhaust quiets up a lot when I get to a certain speed unless I give it some has . And when I get on freeway kinda just sounds like magnaflow not flowmaster

Love the sound of both but the 03 has the 5.3 but I don't want a huge ass tip like that at all & they say it's straight piped but is that no cats and no muffler or ?

Jesus I heard the drawl, then I heard him rev the 03 and yup. Redneck status achieved.

Those trucks are true dual straight pipes. No Muffler, No Cats, and no X or H pipe.

2 things happen with a setup like that. Actually 3.

1. OBNOXIOUSLY loud at ANY speed. You won't be able to hear your passengers talking to you in the cab.

2. You lose bottom end power with a setup like that. There's absolutely NO backpressure and SOME is still required unless you're tuned for it... Racecars are straight piped generally, however they're running at the top of their RPM range all the time.

3. You'll instantly be labelled a redneck everywhere you go, and you'll have that "redneck popping" like you were talking about.

I have a Magnaflow 18" with a full cat-back system on my 06 5.3. I believe it's 2.5" into the muffler, 3" out and into a 4" tip. Here's the video:

Many people are happy with Hooker Aero mufflers for volume and sound as well. And if you want really loud and clean? Dynomax Bullets.

Cut the y pipe after the cats, run duals through an x-pipe then through dynomax bullets.

Just my vote on getting as close to the sound you want...with an ounce of dignity.

Sounds like that may be the setup to do the trick Kris.

Okay I'll look into it . So cut the y after the cars , run dual pipes to x pipe then throw 2 dynomax bullet mufflers on it ? With 4 inch tip. Or 4.5

So keep the cats , dual that with what size pipe it's 2.5 now & then x pipe it & throw 2 bullets on & then 3 inch pipe from there or 2.5 again & 3.5-4 inch tip, how's all that sound ?

When I was in college with my '05 Z71, I had an exhaust shop cut the stock Y-pipe and run true 2.5" duals with an X-pipe, no mufflers and 5" tips out the corners. It sounded pretty good, but it was damn sure too loud, I should've thrown a couple bullets on there too, then it would've sounded good. Still loud, but wouldn't have popped so bad.

My suggestion if you wanna go that route, would be get the shop to cut the stock y-pipe, run dual stock 2.5" piping with an X-pipe and some bullets and dump the tips over the axle under the bed. You need to figure out how loud you want it tho, the shorter the case on the muffler, the louder it will be. The cats also quieten it down some too, so keep that in mind if you want it loud.

I don't want to to loud. I just want it loud , mine quiets down at like 35mph until I get into it again & I want it out behind the tires like I have now I posted a pic a while ago
