4.8 spun a rod bearing so time for a new engine. Im wanting to go with a 6.0 or at the very least a 5.3, but Im still looking to get halfway decent fuel economy. Truck is a regular cab 2 wheel drive. It already has a built 4l60e, longtube headers and a decent tune. Ill keep the 4l60 trans for sure. By swapping to a 6.0 lq4 or lq9 will I really see a detrimental decrease in fuel economy. I drive mostly highway and dont flog on it except for when I go to the track. Right now its averaging about 17-18 on the highway. I was wanting to do a 6.0 with a mild cam(texas speed 224) and I also have a tbss intake sitting in the garage at the house. Ive searched a lot and found inconclusive evidence. Just want some decent opinions from those who have done it. I know its not gonna get honda civic gas mileage, but i dont wanna be getting 14 on highway lol
Really? Just curious, what were you getting with the 5.3? I got 12 no matter what I did in my 05 once I did the level and 295/70/17 Trail Grapps. 5.3HO, 3.42s. 2-3mpg drop would be a pretty big deal at that point

I was getting 13-16 with 5.3 with cam/headers/stall depending how I drove. 3:73s n 33s.
I got 10.6 last tank with 6.0/cam/headers/stall. But about 70% of that tank I was pulling a trailer.
my truck is getting 13.5mpg city and around 17mpg hwy "if" i keep my foot out of it 4.10 gear and 31" tire RCSB
the way I "normally" drive its getting 12mpg city and 15.5mpg hwy btw the tune is not dialed in I never messed with it since its going to be boosted
