i picked up a 5.3 donor truck to swap into my nbs so i can finally join the cool kid v8 club. along with the swap i am planning on replacing some parts along with adding a few go faster goodies. i drive like a grandpa so i don't need anything super fast but since i am replacing some stuff i might as well get a little more power out of it. the v8 truck had 185k on it so i want to refresh it up a little.

tsp 220/220 112lsa cam
ls2 timing chain
ls7 lifters
pushrods
springs
ls2 lifter trays
melling oil pump
since i am removing the heads to replace the lifters i have been debating on getting some 243/799 heads
all new gaskets
pacesetter longtubes
3200 stall
tune

im sure i am missing something so is there anything else yall would recommend?

I would consider heads.

BTR ti springs and trunion upgrade.

Don't forget pushrods

For the price speed engineering headers, Cal speed, or texas speed. All stainless.

Check with btr in cam as well as futral motorsports, lil john motorsports, and Pat g. I'm a fan of cam motion success

While that is true, the design is well over 10 years old. There are much better performing cams out there that are more efficient and are the same cost.

I pretty much want a good sounding one at idle but also keeps the power on the lower end

I would have one spec'd for your needs, Pat G was helpful as fuck and I got exactly what I wanted, he didn't try to steer me any other direction, but did give me information.

I wanted EPS lobes based off what I heard.

I'd also go with a ported ls6 pump or just a replacement stocker. No reason for high volume or high pressure in a street app.

I think most charge a few to spec the cam. Pat g was like $25 I think.

I had no idea. That's not bad at all. But fuk me for having to do all that delete nonsense... Dnw to crack open motor at 70k miles..

It's not really any harder...everything will be off. Replace valley covery, lifters, that's pretty much it. They sell kits. Btr does, as do many others.

This is from Jesse's thread. He has a 4.8, but it'll sound basically the same. Perfect sized cam for a 5.3 imo.

Well finally got done with the cam and head install. Cam specs are EPS 222/226 .604"/.604 lsa 112 +4. Head specs 243/799 milled .030" with BTR 660 dual platinum springs, 7.375 pushrod length. I also installed a new timing set and a new oil pump ported/polished M200.
