I was going to tell you to get a tonneau Huck, definite necessity with an RCSB. I have a 2x6 cut to fit into the slots in the rear of my bed. Gives me a nice space for small items so I don't have to go crawling in the bed for them when I get where I'm going.

I had to dig this up from 5 years ago, but this is the handiest thing. I'm not sure if your truck would have these slots stamped in or not. Good for gettin' groceries and stuff.

Also, now that the toolbox is mounted and it’s shiny.....my neck would really appreciate that tonneau

Ok. So. Silverado will be fine. Changed the oil and it seems to be ok so I decided to get back on the c10. Especially after my trip to TN and couldn’t go over 45mph up over the mtn

Got the motor on the stand and started stripping the harness, mounts, manifolds and crank pulley

Turns out, the shock mounts for these trucks work perfect for the last 1/4” of pulling the pulley off

Got it pulled down and inspected. Cam came out looking pretty as can be, not a weird or dark spot on it. Timing chain had some slack, new one should be here tomorrow. Crank has no slop whatsoever and the bottom end spins over smooth as butter so I’m not even gonna pop a cap off.

Heads are kinda grungy looking. Gonna work with some scotchbrite and wire brushes tomorrow to get these and all the gasket surfaces cleaned up. Then I’ll disassemble, lap the valves and install the new seals and springs.

Got one head done on Monday. Timing chain took 3 days to come in because the local hub was closed Friday and Monday

This is the passenger head. The center 2 exhaust valves were extra nasty compared to the other 6, not sure why.

Little wire brush action and some lacquer thinner/brake clean cleaned them up nicely.
ca2dc0d88cd4b0f352b20d2dd12133d0.jpg

Managed to get the one broken manifold bolt out without too much drama. Just took a little heat and a pipe wrench
9cb3975057fed3cb4520441d5903a98d.jpg

Exhaust valves all looked about the same, just knocked the gunk off with a wire wheel and then lapped them along with the intake valves.

All done and gasket surfaces cleaned up with a medium scotchbrite pad on a small angle grinder.

Finished the second head last night. Finally remembered to get some more detailed pictures. This is before and after of lapping the valves

Sometimes you’ve gotta move the spring just a little to get both retainers in

Also think I’ve found the wheels I want to run when the time comes for some more 20s. Ridler 605s in a 20x8.5 and 20x10 with something like a 255/45 and a 295/40 or something similar

Got a bunch done over the weekend, now it’s really getting exciting!

Saturday, I cleaned the tops of the pistons and head surfaces, slipped the cam in, installed the cam retainer and timing set, then taped it up for paint.

Installed the oil pump, painted and installed the front cover, pickup tube, windage tray and oil pan.

And last, got the heads on and torqued down.

Then on Sunday I finished assembly. Put new bolt seals and gaskets on the freshly painted valve covers, painted the accessory bracket and A/C bracket, installed the water pump, intake and headers. Now to move onto tear down of the truck!

Did run into a couple issues. Realized that the Envoy AC mount uses 2 bolts in the block and then the lower 2 go into bosses on the stock oil pan. The truck pan doesn’t have those. Just those 2 bolts seem to be ok but I’m gonna try to fab up a lower bracket. I want to keep the SUV compressor cuz it fits tighter and has the openings in a better spot than the truck one.

I think I can probably fab up a bracket to go from the front lower AC bolt to the front lower power steering bracket, just have to make sure it clears behind the balancer

Didn’t do much during the week last week. I don’t get off of work until 6 and my buddy and his wife usually go to bed between 8:30-9pm, plus it’s a 45min drive back to my house so work during the week is no much.

But yesterday I got the old 305/TH350, driveshaft and exhaust out of the truck with some help from my buddy. Luckily, didn’t make as big a mess as I expected lol. Today I’m gonna try to get the bay pressure washed, unnecessary wiring and fuel system stuff stripped off and then spray some Raptor liner on the bottom side of the cab for sound and heat insulation.

That 305 looks like an environmentalist's worst nightmare. I was going to say list it on Marketplace as a boat anchor, but you probably couldn't even give it away for that.

Another idea though:

Haha you’re right about that. Nobody would want that, the long block is hurt and worthless. I’m gonna sell the starter/carb/ac brackets/etc and probably do exactly that with the block/rods/pistons! Also kept the stock cam out of the LS to possibly make a table with

Got the engine bay clean on Sunday, painted the core support and some of the frame and used Raptor liner on the bottom of the cab. Took a chance on the blue, it didn’t match. Oh well, it’s underneath

So I took Thursday and Friday off this week to get a bunch done. Finished cleaning, bedlining and painting the bottom of the cab and front half of the frame.

This is the passenger side inner rocker/cab corner before and after.

Filled the torque converter, bolted the motor and trans together, figured out my spacers for the converter, bolted it all up and installed the starter.

Then figured out the little tabs that are in the Prothane motor mount bushings were keeping the mounts from dropping over the clamshells. So that’s where we stopped for the night.

Check out the clearance on the AC compressor though. That’s one big benefit vs a truck compressor, don’t have to notch the frame.

Man I’m behind on updating this lol. I’ve gotten a lot done since then, my main struggle is the wiring at this point. Just figuring out where to route wires, how to do it cleanly and how to setup my relays/key on/constant on stuff.

Trans linkage from Lokar. Not sure I like it. Found a way to reuse the stock setup, may end up doing that.
197674dd1cbaeef1dd137996dbe52b44.jpg

When we first set the motor in, the PS pump was contacting the frame. So I ordered a truck pump. Turns out, the bolt pattern and that big aluminum bracket that holds it and the alternator are different on an Envoy. So I beat the frame down to clean and drilled a hole for the return line to go through (it comes straight out the bottom of the reservoir).

6653cc45044c458454ceb15792f0317d.jpg

Then I moved onto the fan setup. The Tejas Steelworks shroud is a super nice piece. I just marked my holes, drilled and put Rivnuts in so I could use stainless cap screws to mount them.

Had to trim just a little off the tops of either side so it would slide under the upper mount. Got the condenser, big block rad, shroud and fans all in.
