???????? you have done research on duramax's but don't know the difference between a LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, and LML.?

How do you even know you want a lb7? What do you already know?

Probably wants the lb7 because they are the cheapest/oldest style.

LB7 is 300 hp (injector issues, but there are upgraded replacements;5 speed trans)

LLY is 310 hp ( some over heating issues that upgrades can resolve, some say is a detuned LBZ;5 speed trans)

LBZ is 360 hp (great and modded easily;6 speed trans)

LMM is 365 hp (great, but has the dpf but mods bring out its true potential, pistons may not handle extreme hp very well 600+hp;6 speed trans)

LB7s are solid trucks if you upgrade the failing injectors. James Pate's dmax is an LB7 with the 06/07 from end swap.

If you get an LB7, include in the budget money for injectors. And not the shitty GM "reman" injectors, they can fail just as easily.

Also, any diesel you buy, be sure to do at the bare minimum a pump rub kit and an egt probe. Pump rub so you don't have to replace a transfer case, and egt to make sure your exhaust temps are in check.

They have all pretty much hit the nail on the head, look over the whole truck if you can get it for a day to drive and take a solid look, i would go to the local chevy dealer and have them hook up to it and check the balance of the injectors to see how much more life they have left in them.

Of all years, why would you want an 04? Also, LB7 was only offered early in 04. The 04.5 models were LLY.

Yep, you want the 8th digit of the VIN to be a 2, which denotes the LB7 motor.

And Charlie, probably because it's the newest year with that motor.
