I did mine solo. It was a bitch, but with some ingenuity I was able to get it done.

Hell I just worked up the stones to clear my lights, I'm sure mechanically I can do it, I just think to much into stuff...one day I'll do it. It shifts good now after my tune so it's not bugging me to much.
both of mine i've done myself, just get you a nice long prybar to push the cover back then like said use your back to hold it
it wont hurt anything, mileage wont really matter.
When you have it tuned you should let your tuner know you are putting one in, as it does make a differance.

my one truck i ran without a retune it just will really slam into gear, you can install it at any point and just get a retune when you can.
stock tune is fine,
the reason you would want a retune is that the tuner normally ups all your line pressures to make shifting faster and firmer, with the servo they dont need to be as high.
