Been thinking more and more about leaving my nnbs alone since it is my DD.
My dad still has my old truck and I've been thinking about working on it instead since its been a good truck to me.

Stats:
2004 GMC Sierra 1500 z71 SLT Extended cab. It has over 250,000 miles and it is really starting to show. Body wise, its in really good shape for the mileage. It has a little bit of rust around the rockers, but really haven't looked at it closely in a while. The interior is in fairly decent shape besides the drivers seat. Its all leather, so that is a plus.

The good:
About 150,000 of the miles are true highway miles. It has been well maintained with regular maintenence. Mileage aside, the truck runs pretty good. It seems to have more umph than my nnbs. Its also a one owner truck. My dad bought it new and was have had it ever since. He passed it on to me when I got my license since he was due for a new business vehicle.

The bad:
The truck seems to be having some electrical issues, but not quite sure where the problem lies. It unlocks itself while driving, the radio is on the frits(probably age), the heated seats no longer work, and the windows are super slow. It has an aftermarket remote start that could be the source of the electrical issues. On the mechanical side, besides the high miles, there is a small exhaust leak at the drivers side header. The rear two header bolts are broke off at the head.

Only have a few pics of it. It has plastidip on the lower half from when I was young and dumb, but it will be coming off.

So here's the question - do I build this truck or keep modding the new truck? Does it have too many miles, making it a lost cause? Any input is welcome.

Sounds like bcm or where it's tapped for the remote start. Windows being slow is likely age, lubricating /cleaning may help. Milage never scared me. Especially if you're modding/replacing things during a build anyway.

Well that does change. Aftermarket shit usually is the cause of a lot of problems.

I think I'm going to try to work out the electrical issues when I have my nnbs in the shop to get the hail damage repaired.

Also thought about the headers/full exhaust route. It looks like if I pull the headers off that I'll be able to get the bolts out.

IMO if the heads are broke off it's probably from someone trying to get it out but rust tite made it break... Going to need to use lube and heat to get it out and getting lube to travel against gravity is pretty hard

The headers have never been removed. I looked it up when I noticed and apparently they are notorious for breaking like that. I don't think they will be too hard to remove. You can only here a slight tick when the motor is cold. It goes away once it gets up to temp.

Doesn't sound like a terrible project. Especially since y'all literally know the whole history, I'd say go for it. Definitely start with getting the alarm out of there, that seems to be the root of many electrical gremlins.

lt headers, demold, remove plastidip black wheels mud tires and lift and would be bitchin and awesome since its not your daily, wouldn't affect you really if it broke

Let me rephrase my original question then.

What things that I have stated about the truck make it a nightmare to you? I don't want some broad, smart-ass response like you have already provided. Its pretty sad that a mod has to be like that when someone genuinely asks for help.

I really would like true, honest input on this, which most have provided so far. I always hear people talking about how much better the NBS trucks are and I seem to be stuck in a rut of bad luck with my NNBS.
