truck: 2005 silverado ss with Bose system

previous unit: ~2003 Alpine IVA - D900 (DVD, Nav)
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-8N3LXNFkyyy/p_500IVAD900/Alpine-IVA-D900.html#overview-tab

new unit: ~2009 Pioneer AVIC - F700BT (Nav)
Pioneer AVIC-F700BT Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com

i'll try and keep this short. i'm a radio noob; only installed a basic single din in my 1st car and Sierra, which was just one simple harness and radio antenna. i've never dealt with Bose system, and never dealt with any double din/nav unit before, so this mind fucks me.

this is how i bought the truck - with the Alpine unit out and in its box, with no unit actually in the truck..just all those wires. owner had the unit since new in about 2003 and said it still works..buttt then why did he take it out? idfk. he had a receipt from Circuit City when they installed the Alpine unit, which is why some of the wires are labeled i guess

my GOAL: install Pioneer double din, keep Bose system, keep steering wheel controls

my PROBLEM: have NO idea WTF all these wires are. which (if any) i will be able to re-use for Pioneer unit, and which new harnesses i'll need

black gloves are on because my white hand + flash = huge glare

The harness that plugs into the gmos the factory Bose. Basically, anything that's wrapped in tape/foam is gonna be stock. You will have 2 factory harnesses

The GMOS-04 box that you've got is for your OnStar and Bose integration. That's good, that'll save you ~$100 from needing it. That harness should have the provisions for your parking brake, vss, and reverse wiring if your new Pioneer has Nav. Try to find the paperwork for the GMOS-04 so you can find the wiring diagram and subsequently start to sort out which wires are which. Like others said though, most of it should be color-coordinated. If you have steering wheel controls, you'll need to get a separate module for that. See here for that adapter.

Bohall since it was 'professionally' installed, everything is taped and neat looking. I can't tell what is factory bose (nor would I know anyway) and what is leftover aftermarket wires.

Everything is connected with each other through plugs on wire taps, which makes it a PITA

The gmos 04 has 4 plugs, one on each end, then 2 more off the wires next to it.

Big gray one runs into factory foam, small black one runs into single green wire w/ white stripe

Edit. I do have wheel controls and I know I need a harness for that, if he doesn't have it already.. I have no idea. My main problem isn't installing it right now, it is separating the stock from after market wires so I can return to stock and start fresh. See what I have/what I'll need. But with how everything is tied to in together, Idk what's what

Well basically, the harness with the
Purple pair
Green pair
White pair
Grey pair
Is ALWAYS after market. That's the standard speaker wire colors. So if the harness has all that, it's after market. And I would also be willing to bet whoever installed didn't wrap in foam tape, so if theirs foam tape, it's oem. However just from how it looks on my phone I think they used the fancy prewired plug and play harness, if that's the case get to choppin. My method for dealing with this kinda stuff, is to just unplug and remove everything. If it comes out its after market lol

gmos-04 is a metra unit, definitely not stock but you probably know that, and like bohall said, ANYTHING with foam around it is OEM. ive never seen anyone rewrap aftermarket wiring with OEM foam.

do solder and use heatshrink on your connections, plz. takes longer but much cleaner

yeah shouldnt have said back to stock..rather back to just what i need. next ill take off that dvd bypass harness. as for the extra red power wire coming from the Alpine plug (non sticker side of GMOS - the big gray plug that plugs into big factory green one)..which end should i remove it out of? the alpine end, or gray plug end, or remove it from both because it doesnt matter?

and i wasnt kidding when i said i was a noob at this shit. i had really had no idea what i was looking at before lol learned a lot today about it all

Just cut off the red wire on both ends and tape it up really good. The red wire is no longer needed, snip off that green wire but keep it because you may need it for your new double DIN unit. The green wire should be tied into your parking brake.

did some clipping tonight and overly taped everything

cut the dvd wire near the plug

cut extra power wire

dvd harness OUT!

so, the black, red, and yellow wires i'm holding were cut from the DVD harness

they run up to this

which runs to this. you can see where they go. 1 of each into big gray plug, 1 black & 1 yellow come from the other set which runs back.
i also taped those two orange ones together (but not touching) because they were cut but left open

and ended at this. dead end green wire, GMOS installed right, black/red/yellow extra end, and thick power cord.

im thinking i can ditch where the extra end of black/red/yellow. cut the ends at the tri-way meet point..and splice just to the same gray plug wire, but wanted to double check before i went cut-happy loll

I would have just unplugged every harness connection, taken everything down to the factory harnesses and started over. Less confusing. Glad you're getting it sorted out.
