so i am part of a diesel group in BC and they keep posting shit about LED headlights.

these:

PlasmaGlow Igniters LED Headlight Bulbs - Best Price on PlasmaGlow LED Headlight Conversion Kit

are these comparable to HID's?

any of you run these?

any better kits out there?

the only complaint i have heard is from a guy in Alberta, and he said that it doesn't get warm so it does not melt the snow off your lenses in the winter.

any thought and relate-able comments are welcome!

Marc I just finished installing the genssi 5000k kit on my nnbs. On the next chance I get to pull the truck out, I'll try to get some output pics compared to my dad's nnbs rcsb. No promises on a timeline though, as he has his own agenda and I have no idea what might be blocking my truck in lol

That's the cheapest I've seen. I'll try to do it this weekend if I don't have to work both days. I'm getting curious on the output as well because they seem damn bright. I have my light bar too so I'm not as concerned with the output if they don't turn out as good as advertised. Also, my nnbs rarely gets driven at night lol

Doesn't matter if the output is great or not, you'll still be blinding people worse than having hids in a halogen housing.

Doesn't matter. If it isn't a halogen bulb, it will glare like crazy.

TRS is currently working on a morimoto branded LED projector that should be ready by next year.

I despise plug and play LED's for the same reason that I despise plug and play HID's.

You would be SO MUCH better off doing even a budget retro with B-stock mini H1's that are like 60 bucks for a pair, opening your own headlights and doing your own retro with HID's... for one thing your output would be much more FUNCTIONAL. These LED's are supposed to put out more lumens than 35 W HID's... meaning you'll blind people even worse with the glare. They may light up the road just as good as HID's, but I say save your money, and retro your OEM lights.

I do 50% of my driving at night and drive a shit ton. I never have any issues seeing with my stock lights in my fusion. Nor did I in any of the trucks I owned. however putting lights that are not designed for the optics they are going in is going to glare. even those people that say there is no glare they are full of shit. I guess science is wrong.

the long one

Aside from changing the focus point from within the halogen lens, a single source LED driver isnt going to have all the light properly focused to actually throw it down the road. This is actually the same thing that happens when you put HID into a halogen reflector, light goes all over since you are changing the position of the light pattern/source. LEDs are great and have lots of potential and distance, IF they are designed properly, something that doesnt happen with tossing in a "LED bulb" into your housing. If you look at all the current OEM led headlamp systems, they are multi unit. Most companies are using an array of atleast 5 different optics to each LED driver set. This way they can focus each lens individually and position them all in a way that provide functional spreads of light. If you cover up any one of those units, you start to be dim spots in the headlight pattern, since the others are too focused in lighting one specific area. essentially what you would have with an LED like that in a halogen optic is an extreme amount of glare from unfocused light, TONS of immediate intensity, and a very short random range/width pattern. Photographing them can be tricky. i can make my HIDs look like they are WAY brighter then what they actually are and most cameras will go a default of a long exposure at night time even with a headlight source. this makes the photo seem like they are much brighter then they actually are.

Look back at the last picture where it is in that motorcycle light. TONS of light right off the bat but by the time its gotten to that crack thats maybe 10' in front of it theres nothing. All the light being captured there is from the cameras long shutter. if you really want good light you need to either a.) retrofit with proper optics b.) find some 9011/9012 HIR bulbs and run those. They wont have the color of HID, but the output is nearly identical.

x2 for HIR bulbs. Love mine in the Sierra and they're bright as anything, minus my retro'd Denali setup.
