Car is done. Runs great. Dyno'd at 388/379. Still running stock (2'' I believe) pipes from the headers to the mufflers so I need to get those changed to 2.5''. I'm sure that's robbing a little power. I'd like to do a Solo or Borla catback next and maybe a few bolt ons at the same time. Need to do some more research though. Pretty happy with the cam overall.

do Solo, too bad you aren't closer, I will be selling mine soon

they have like 5 different kits with similar names lol. how's the drone? i see some of their kits have j-pipes. i have shitty pacesetter headers, will connecting them to my headers be simple? I've never had a bolt on system, I've always pieces together parts.

J pipes are the only way to go, the other is based off preference. I would go shorty with the small mid muffler. Just get on the g8 group I added you to and ask around

Kursed v2

Car ran great for the first tank of gas. Developed a small tick after that. I know the LS7 lifters are notoriously noisy and I had a bad exhaust leak so I didn't think too much of it. It got worse and I felt that I either lost a little power or I was getting used to the new power level. Took it to my buddy that did the install and we pulled the passenger side valve cover and found this...

Brand new BTR platinum valve spring broke a top cap. I got damn lucky I didn't drop a valve. It beat the shit out of the spring, retainers, and rocker. Easy fix, so we take the spring off and the valve is scored a bit. Got a fine file and smoothed it out a hair. Filled the cylinder with air and lifted the valve up and down. Turned the motor over by hand and did it again. There was a slight bind in the valve movement. It was bent. Cool.
Idk if it was a faulty part or what. I'm sure the instsall was done right though.

Pulling the head and installing new valve, head gasket, rocker, trunion, spring, and another set of titanium retainers and new cap. Also throwing on a full Solo Mach Shorty exhaust with v-bands while its there.

I advise all cgm members to not buy a g8 :roflsquared:

i still want one,

and ive never seen a titanium retainer break like that. mine are also a little different in style though.

my buddy tanner and the shop he works at do a dozen cam swaps a week. they only use BTR unless customer brings something else. nobody there had ever seen a BTR break like that. They texted Brian Tooley as soon as it happened. He's replacing the spring, cap, retainer, and maybe rocker.

picked it up last night and went to drive it home. engine light started flashing and car was tapping on drivers side this time.. towed it back to the shop. the rocker bolt backed itself out.. wtf, they were torqued perfectly. called tooley and he said to use blue locktite and torque to 26 ft. lbs instead of 22 ft lbs. like his kit says. we did that and my buddy is gonna drive it to and from work tonight to see if it does anything weird. gonna dial in the tune a bit as well.
really digging the solo exhaust. it has no drone at all.

Eddals recommended blue loctite when I did mine. That sucks though, hopefully this is the end of the issues for ya

small update

car is back and running awesome. I've put about 2,000 miles on the swap already. got all the mechanical bugs worked out.
small mod that made a huge difference. previous owner painted the factory hood scoops black. a kid at my school as a white g8 that was hit in the rear and totaled. so we swapped scoops. much better. i also have an 8'' tear in my heated leather drivers seat from where the butt of my gun ripped it open when i sat down. he's swapping me his old seat too. woot.

next on the list...

3.5'' dual tips
fix my fog lights and install switchbacks
drop of some sort- really want coilovers
new front tires
ctsv wheels but I doubt that will be anytime soon

Texas likes to do G8's dirty... I'm down in Austin for a firearms competition. Headed back from 6th street last night and got cut off by a Toyota Corolla on i35n. We hit the rear of them and they took off. Lost the front end lower grille, front bumper and grille is toast, hood is bent up too. Gonna drive it back to MO tomorrow and get everything figured out with insurance. GXP front end time.
