So this 80e has the shittiest first gear ever. I have stock 3.73s and a g80 right now. I'm running a 285/35r22 which is like 29.8" iirc. I'm wanting to do a true trac for sure but not sure if I should jump up to 4.10s for a little more low end. Will probably do a new converter before anything cause this one sucks but the gears is the part idk about.

80E first gear sucks.
Heres my opinion, but do realize I tend to lean to the lower gears side, iv always liked them more.

I went from 3:23 to a 3:73 was a damn good bump. Currently im now at a 4:10 from the 3:73 not really that noticeable TBH. If your going to spend the money on a ring and pinion set me personally id go 4:30s it will be a nice jump and help with that long lag of that 80e first gear.

i have cam/heads/yank with the 4:10s on a 28" tire im still averaging 18-20 @ 65mph. Im soon to go to 4:56s to help this huge 4000 stall.

However i think spending 150+ to go from 373 to 410 youll be disappointed, 373 to 430 imo would be well worth it and you will enjoy having that snappy quick first gear like a 60e has

i run 410s on 30" 255/50/20s and love it. 70 is like 2300 iirc and thats a perfect spot for cruising. If its not your DD, then u might want to do 430 or even 456, depends on what u plan on using the truck for.

definitely go 4.30 or 4.56. the torque/fun factor in town is awesome. And the extra fuel burnt cruising at highway speeds is very low.

I would do 4.30 but I haz 14 bolt and can't find a 4.30 anywhere for it. It was between 4.10 and 4.56 and 4.10 just seems like the better choice. I daily drive the truck but it's mostly in town. When I do true trac I'm doing new gears for sure just cause it'll all be out.

If its mostly town then go 4.56. What size tc are you going to get?

Running what's supposed to be a 3400 now.. It flashes/stalls to around 2800-3000 if I'm lucky. Had the thing built for a 32" tire and 4.10s so TCS said it would stall higher once I get 4.10s. Well I dropped almost 3" off my tire size and it's still the same shit. Will probably go with a PI or Circle D 3400-3600 possibly yank too.

4.56's he would top out at like 80 mph lol.

Most definitely wouldn't top out in 4th (OD) WOT with 4.56's on 29.8" tall tires with 4.56's. at most he'd be in low 3000's RPM wise. 4.11's wouldn't make much of a difference. Why spend the $3-400 for parts alone?

If your going to go with a bigger or looser converter lower gears will be helpful. As said before 373-410 is bearly noticeable its just not worth the 150 bucks.
