Hey everyone, I've been pretty quiet - lotta big changes over here. Sold two trucks within the first 10 days of 2019. The Fiancee and I made a move to Washington state for her job, and I had to cut some inventory. The Sierra's transmission popped its reverse gear (2nd trans rebuild would've been needed) right before new years, and I had been trying to sell the Silverado for about 6 months already...

Sad few weeks, I've had the Silvy since I was 18 (in 2005), and didn't plan on selling the Sierra for a few years until I could recover from buying an engagement ring and moving across country. Most of all, it left me with ONLY the K5 to drive, so I had to find something up here once I found a new job. The used truck market up here is absolutely ludicrous, so I started looking into NBS Tahoe's for something to get me by for a few years on the cheap. For some reason, fullsize SUV's are about half the price, so I ended picking this '04 up with 156k on the odometer for only $4,500. Fully loaded LT 4x4, 5.3, drivetrain felt amazing, and it was in pretty good shape for the mileage...plus its red. Brought it home in June looking like this:

Pretty basic, not much molestation minus those taillights. Good starting point overall. Here is how it sits today after some cleaning and molding/step removal:

That's all so far. Just been collecting parts and cleaning it up. Really like it, nice to have something fully loaded with a sunroof that is completely stock for now. I miss having a truck, but I couldn't justify the cost of something from the GM '14-18 generation in 2019 - so I figure I'll rock this for a few years.

Here's what I will be doing shortly. Parts are building up in the garage, just some time to install it all.

Alpine ilx-207 Media Receiver
Lift keys and rear lift for about 2" lift
Bolt on Centerline Stingray II's w/ 33x10.5 (from the Sierra)
17" factory wheels with 33's for winter wheels
Paint the black handles red - the are painted black from the factory for some reason
Tint front rolldowns to match rear, and an 75% tint or so on the front shield
HD hood and bumper cap painted to match (hood has some clearcoat peeling, so..bye)
Tint turn signal portion of tail lights red
LED headlights and fogs
Corvette servo
Blackbear tune
Weathertechs
Replace some interior stuff that is worn out

Pretty basic stuff. Catching it up on maintenance and basic repairs for now. Paint has been taken care of, its great from 10', but needs some correction due to some swirling along with a bit of PDR. Anyways, Ill update as progress is made and it goes on some cool adventures.

Love the new ride and it will look great with the mods you have planned. I am extremely jealous...I didn't know they made 03+ Tahoes in Victory Red. I thought they only came on 01-02! I have always wanted a red Tahoe or Yukon but didn't want the 01-02 interior.

Thanks, and I didnt know them in red after '02 either. Finding out that for some reason all of the handles were painted black though - they did the same with the 07-12 tahoes too for a few years. Weird. Always wanted a red truck, didnt think I'd find it right now though!

I didn't even realize the handles and the mirrors caps were PAINTED black. That is extremely odd!

I always find good deals on WASHINGTON craigs when it comes to OBS/NBS. Texas is generally awesome but the weather is aaaaaaawmehgaaaaaasssh maddening.

Right? Nice to have painted over textured plastic, just an odd choice to not match them.

Yeah I think the older truck market may be tainted by some thinking that theyre coming down from AK or CAN and getting the rust covered up. Thats all I can think of. This one came from Oregon though, and its a peach. I did look at 2 bad ones, one looked so greasy underneath because the guy buys them in CAN then drives them down, undercoats them, and flips them. No thx bud, nice low mileage Z71 though.

Put the lift and Centerlines on this weekend. I've never done a torsion key lift, and this was crazy easy. Heres how she sits now, excuse the wheels. They were dirty before we moved, and have been in storage for 6mo. Been too busy to clean em up, ill do a thorough polish and protect over the winter when I get some tires for my stock 17s im going to use for my winter setup.

I like it, no rubbing issues so no trimming, and it stiffened the cheapo shocks up a bit. I was expecting more lean in the rear. 1.25" rear coil spacers and new spring pads gave me 2" of lift - right now the rear is only about .25" lower and it almost looks higher to my eyes. I went up fairly far on the torsion keys and got just 2" on the front. I'm wondering if I have worn t-bars, or if the rear just needs to settle a bit more. Getting it aligned tomorrow, so I'll know what I'm looking at then. May throw some .75" spacers back there to drop it back down a hair. Gunna clean it up ASAP, more pictures to come!

I had the same issue with mine. On my 2004 2wd I had 2" rear spacers and cranked more than enough to be level. On my 2005 Z71 Tahoe I cranked and with 1.5" spacers it was ass high, so I threw in some .75" spacers and loved the stance.

Yeah if it stays this way imma drop in those .75"a most likely. We'll see if I get used to it. Being 100% level ain't bad.

What tires were you running on those stock 17s? Looking at 295 or 285/70s for my 'winter' setup.

They were 285/70's. The only time they rubbed was in the rear on the inner fender liner. There is a shock bolt behind it that you can flip around and have no worries tho.

Cleaned er up a bit, looks good. Need new front tires ASAP and to bring down the front and rear a bit, cranked the front a bit too high to match and dont love the way it handles. The passenger side wheel end has much more camber than the driver side and it made the front end too sensitive with the current setup. Should behave better with some lower BJ angles and tires that dont road crown so badly. Either way, pleased with how it turned out for a simple DD.

Now thinking about tuning and maybe an exhaust cutout with a muffler - I miss having some noise when I want it. I really should put the money into the K5, but I just dig this Tahoe. Anyone know the factory pipe size before the muffler?

I don’t remember off hand but had to expand the factory pipe to get my 3” muffler welded on. Maybe 2.5??

My Suburban has a single 2.75” in and dual 3” out that y’d back into a single 3” tailpipe, all kinds of fuckery going on. I just built up the welds to go from 2.75” to 3”
