Been thinking of getting the wife into a newer, fullsize GM SUV again. We've had (3) NBS SUVs over the last 13 yrs... 01’ Tahoe, 05’ Yukon, and my 01’ Suburban.
She currently has a 13’ Explorer Limited which has been great in the 40k miles of ownership. I'm back to DDing my HD and am going to be selling my 01’ Burb soon. And, we're debating unloading her Explorer for a Tahoe/Suburban to pull duty as a family hauler/her DD/kid hauler to games-tournaments, etc.
Looking into finding a clean, lower mileage, NNBS (07’-14’) platform as far as the year range. We would like the newest bodystyle, 2015+. But, they are currently out of our price range. Year doesn't really bother me and mileage as well….. as long as it's in good condition and has been maintained properly.
I've never owned the NNBS platform yet… but, have had (6) NBSs and am familiar with their “problems/issues”. I wanted to hear some feedback from ACTUAL owners thoughts on these particular vehicles. NOT what you heard on forums or your Uncles cousin, step-brothers, friends, Dad's reviews……
I've read of the majority of the NNBS “issues" over the years on here/other forums….
1) Interior issues (i.e- dash cracks, interior rattles, etc)..... Do these pertain to the higher trim level SUVs as well? Or only pickup models?
2) Engine issues? AFM and DOD crap…. Lifter failure? What years are prone to this? Did all NNBS have these features or only later models? Can it simply be tuned out or is there more to it......
3) Rust? I see alot of NNBS trucks with rocker/bed rust starting. SUVs prone to rust anywhere yet? Spots to look for???
I do ALL my own repairs and am not scared to get into something with general repairs/maintenance. But, I don't wanna get into something that's a money pit and has major issues in the near future. This has to be a reliable DD for the wife/kids considering I'm the one “pushing the issue" to get her back into a GM SUV.
