As some of you on social media and personal contact may know, after the RCLB was totaled in February in an ice storm, I had been on the hunt for a upgrade/replacement. Immediately I began to look at all models that came with a larger engine in the 1500 platform. K2xx 6.2s were wayyyy out of the price range and I’ve never been a huge fan of the NNBS so I decided to set my sights on a clean low mileage NBS which as you guys know can be a real unicorn these days.

I hadn’t had much luck on the hunt besides a 2006 Sierra ECSB Vmax that I never got to see before it sold. Then a month later, I saw this truck come up for sale not far from my house. Originally it was posted up for 19,999. Then in two weeks it was dropped to 18,499 and that’s when I went to go look at it and hopefully take it home which would prove to be way more difficult than I thought considering this would be my first vehicle finance.

Long story short, the truck was extremely clean. Clean bedsides, rockers and undercarriage very little rust considering it’s age and the body was way more straight than my black truck, but it wasn’t perfect. It seems the previous owner did not have very good spacial awareness with the truck as both bumpers have considerable sized dents and both tow mirrors are scuffed. I knew those were easy fixes and good ways to back them down from 18.5 so I stayed in the game. Well that didn’t go as planned at all. After the test drive and inspection I was only in there for a max of 10 mins as the manager at first outright refused to see me after my initial offer of 16 and then coming up and being extremely disrespectful and basically saying 18.5 is it and if not the doors right there. So I walked after he turned down 17. Extremely bummed out but the salesman apologized and slipped me his business card with his cell on the back.

Fast forward a week, I get a voicemail from the salesman saying the manager reconsidered my offer and will take 17 for the truck. I was so pumped! But the fun was just about to begin as I am in a full time, live in Police Academy in PA, a good 3 hours from this dealership with no time off ahead to go get this truck. So yet another bump in the road where the manager basically refused to work out the deal thru the mail because he was concerned about the risk of fraud. Once again the eager salesman to the rescue, he was able to convince the manager to go thru with the sale over the internet and then on his own dollar and time, delivered the truck halfway out to me in Allentown, PA on April 29, 2018.

Onto the specs, it’s a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE VortecMax package, certified carfax 1 owner and 59k miles. It’s an SLE so cloth seat trim and no sunroof but it also has the Zx3 electronic ride control suspension which is cool but gonna be expensive to maintain.

So far I’ve put about 300 miles on the truck and love it! The pick up from the Lq9/4.10s is a crazy difference from the 4.8 with the dog leg 5 speed and the 3.73s! Now as you can see from the pics, it was in full grandpa package with full length running boards, mudflaps, and a fiberglass tonneau cover. Last weekend I was able to get it mostly cleaned up and “de-grandpa’d” it. Fortunately only one of the racelines from the RCLB got a little chewed up on the lip from the accident so I was able to get them on as well. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get many pics so delivery day pics will have to do for now! More pictures and plans to come! Thanks!
